Free Webcast Announced

WHL GAME IN WHITEHORSE AVAILABLE FOR FREE ON WEBCAST

As part of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada on CBC

Calgary, AB -- The Western Hockey League is pleased to announce that the Kamloops Blazers and Vancouver Giants regular season game in Whitehorse on Saturday, February 12, 2011 will be available to WHL fans through webcast free of charge. The game will be featured as part of CBC’s national coverage of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada serving as the back drop for Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens broadcast along with Don Cherry’s Coaches Corner during Hockey Night in Canada. The game will be played at the Takhini Arena in Whitehorse starting at 4:00pm PT and marks the first time in WHL history a regular season game is played in the Yukon.

The free webcast, featuring video courtesy of the CBC and play-by-play provided by the voice of the Kamloops Blazers Jon Keen from Radio NL, will be available through our digital media partner NeuLion by visiting our WHL Live On Demand website (http://whl.neulion.com/whl/) or by visiting the CBC Sports webpage (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/).


The game will feature two B.C. based WHL franchises who have a winning tradition. The Kamloops Blazers were the premier major junior franchise in Canada during the 1990’s, capturing the Memorial Cup in 1992, 1994 and 1995 while the Vancouver Giants have been a dominant force in the WHL since entering the League in 2001, capturing a Memorial Cup in 2007 and a WHL Championship title in 2006.


NOTES: CBC’s Hockey Day in Canada coverage starts at 10:00AM MST on Saturday, February 12th, with the Giants and Blazers facing off at 4:00PM PT…All six Canadian NHL teams will feature on Hockey Day in Canada…The WHL Alumni participating in the event include Trevor Linden (Medicine Hat Tigers), Wendel Clark (Saskatoon Blades) and Kelly Hrudey (Medicine Hat Tigers)…CBC will also be broadcasting from Cole Harbor, NS, Quebec City, QC, Oakville, ON, Regina, SK, and Victoria, B.C. as part of the Hockey Day in Canada coverage.
