Tassone, Wudrick Free Agents

Two of the Swift Current Broncos drafted in 2008 are free agents again.

Both Geordie Wudrick (L.A. 3rd round) and Matt Tassone ( Dallas 6th round) failed to sign a contract by the June 1st deadline.

Wudrick will now likely return to Kelowna for his 20 year-old season next year.

For Matt, the hard luck kid out of St. Albert will have to earn a free-agent tryout somewhere or hope another club has him on their radar for a possible contract.

Tassone was plagued with injuries the last two seasons just when he started to show his offensive abilities.

A 10 month lay-off because of double shoulder-surgery was no doubt tough to overcome.

Is Novotny going to be playing with the Broncos as a 20 year old this year or going back to his home country of Czech Republic? It's possible if the Broncos have anywhere between 0 and 2 picks in the upcoming Euro draft. Whether Ortio reports (or his rights are moved to another team), and whether Novotny comes back for his 20 year old year with Swift Current will determine how many picks the Broncos have. Thoughts?

In time Tyler. All your questions will be answered. Honestly, I don't know.

Why don't you know? Doesn't Mark Lamb and the board run everything through you?

Yes, usually.

Clearly I should change my name or something because I was the one making the original points regarding the Euro draft...the other "Tyler" made the comments regarding Mark Lamb and running things through him.

You have a fan Tyler.

I'll stop writing comments if I'm just getting mocked about it.

Tyler:

The Broncos will use their first pick for sure regardless of Novotny. The Euro PPL limit only applies to players 19 and under, so Ortio and the pick would count as the two until training camp.

If Tassone gets healthy, he will be an AHLer someday, and I wouldnt bet against an NHL role if he can just stay out of the sick bay....

Great player.

Hey Keener, just a small nit - Wudsy isn't a free agent yet, he'll go back into this draft. If he goes undrafted, then he'll be an instant free agent.

But I'd say he's almost certain at being a re-draft by somebody. Looked pretty darn good in the playoffs.
